Frugalista - so sorry about your news. Hope something turns up soon for your OH. If he was on a month's notice can you hide the car in somebody else's driveway for a month so you can use it a little longer until his official notice period has expired.. While you've got it, try and work out what you will need it for in terms of carrying bulky loads like bulky grocery shopping (loo rolls etc, heavy bags of garden compost) so you've got it in stock while you still have the convenient transport.0

Frugalista - so sorry to hear your news. The exact same thing happened to me and OH in 1991 - came home on the Friday, no pay, no money, no nothing. I know exactly how you are feeling.
Thanks for everyone's kind wishes - I think I am lucky that I work part-time. At least when I'm at home I can get on with stuff and try to block it out, whereas when you're at work all the time, that's all everyone talks about. Trying to cut back as much as possible, although I'm not sure how much that will help - have been making lists of prices in Lidl so I can more accurately budget and taking stock of household goods and clothes - think I can probably get through at least the next year without buying anything at all.
Hugs to everyone in need of them.0 -
Catznine - just a thought re your daughter - the student loan (assuming it is a standard loan from "the student loans company") isn't a secured loan, so if her income drops below c.£15k, the repayments stop, with no penalty. Also a student loan doesn't affect credit rating, ability to get a mortgage etc. I believe the interest rate is only 2.5% at the moment too so it's far preferable to any other kind of loan!

oh no, more bad news from posters. It is so sad that decent people are being hit again.
Re anger: don`t let it eat you up, it is self-destructive and hurts no-one else but you. The way to deal with anger is to turn it into a positive ie how can I turn this situation to my advantage. Positive energy will get you through this and anger is nasty, destroying, negative energy which eats at you so that you turn from positive to negative and health etc starts to suffer
a good way to get rid of anger is to write it down on paper, then burn it
and if you believe in angels, then ask your guardian angel to help you come through this

Hugs to everyone who needs them. Just reading the news reports on the Independent, too much doom and gloom so I'm taking a break.
I don't know if anyone has posted this, so I'm sorry if it's being repeated, but Asda have marked down their 500g packets of British mince down to £1. They've also got flour for 75p a bag (2 for £1.50) and bread flour for 50p each, I think that's a 500g bag. I don't know if there's a limit per person but I'll be picking a few up for my mum on the way home this afternoon.
Have a good day everyone, I can't top what Kittie said but we will be okay.0 -
Frugalista, so sorry to hear your news.
I guess if they just closed the doors and ceased trading you have no idea where you stand at the moment, on money owed to you OH, which makes things even worse.
I am sure you have already thought of this, but hop over to the redundancies board, I am sure there are people there who can help too. Sending (HUGS) and good vibes to everyone.0 -

That's a shame! Arent they there for online delivery? They might of re-stocked today aswell.
I think i'll be very lucky if I manage to get any of the mince, will keep an eye out for the oats too.0 -
Asda doesn't deliver in my area for some strange reason
even though they are the same distance away as Tesco (which does) and closer than Sainsbury's (which also does)...

Me too - when I finally do shuffle off this mortal coil they will find engraved on my heart the immortal words "best before end 8/1/1991 3pm" (it's a very long story....) If my mum hadn't been home on an extended Xmas holiday I would not be here now (thanks mum :A ) So no matter how bad things get - it ain't quite that bad! At least we are not suffering war, famine or disease, I look round the world and feel heartily grateful I am living in this country and not in a warzone.
Yes, I have no doubt that things will get worse before they get better - who knows whats up the pipeline - but we will get through this, it's been done before and it will happen again, seems to be human nature, but change is sometimes a good thing - looking back on when I have been made redundant in the past it has led on to better jobs afterwards - maybe it's Fate's way of giving me a necessary kick up the backside - but it still hurts like hell at the time.SMILE....they will wonder what you are up to...........;)0
