  • Well, it just got worse at my employers - yesterday we had our email from the big boss to say that there would be redundancies. I have a 1 in 8 chance of going at the end of February but not quite as bad as my boss - she has a 1 in 2 chance of going!!! Am going to try not to worry about it (easier said than done and as superviser, everyone is asking me - and I only know the same as them) because we won't find out until at the earliest 23 February.

    Hugs to everyone

    Morning all

After my brother, bil+sil being made redundant just before xmas, last week my other brother has been cut from 50hrs to 25hrs and my sis has been put on a 4 day week -and been warned it will sometimes only be 3  ....
at the moment my hubby seems to be the only one safe:o ..he has 3.5 years left in the army -thank god they offered to extend him by 5 years -or we would have been in civvi street 18 months ago ..and that really doesn't bare thinking about

I have been on MSE long enough to have allready started battoning down the hatches "just in case" ... but these latest developments have just made me more determined to get as much saved as possible...

another 2 weeks and I can make a start setting my veggie seeds....loads of them ;) ,
Im making most of my xmas pressies.... knitting/crochetting ponchos, snoods, scarves, bags etc..... making jewellery and x stitching -7 presents finished so far :T . Not only will they cost much less than buying "tat" but being busy crafting keeps me out of the shops:p and hopefully they will be of use too!!

I have worked out that I have enough ingredients in the house to make all the main meals through to the end of February...and most of the lunches... so it will mainly be salad, veg, fruit n milk... so Im hoping to get even more saved this month ;)
    right -enough waffle..
Im sure we will all get through these tough times..especially with this community on here, where we can keep each other motivated :T

To all of you worrying about their jobs and redundancy, you're in my thoughts. Having trodden the same path in more than once in our household I know there are no magic solutions and no kind fairy to come along with a magic wand and produce a Lottery win to financial worries. The important thing is to remain positive, provide as much emotional support to each other as possible, and rejoice in the small steps you can take to help you feel in control. And never lose your sense of humour, however tested it is on some days.

    Morning!

Charis - glad the muffins worked for you, it really is a good recipe, curtesy of dd1's teacher, I don't usually bother with cake recipes I measure by eye, but for this one I've relented and used scales! LOL at banana grating - for a mo I actually had visions of you doing it!

Ceridwen - thanks for the plant ideas, I grow my salad greens in tubs, but will keep the grow thing in mind, I need something like that for toms, actually I wonder if it'd work with the toms that are suitable for growing in baskets, they don't have much depth of soil? Will have a think about that! Primrose, do you know if it'd work, I could have a wall of toms then! Just read the post underneath, thanks Primrose!

I agree wholeheartedly with your sentiments that everyone should have enough food, I happily give stuff to people when I've got carried away baking or pickling! Though I'm not sure how long they'd be able to keep going on chutney or apple pies lol!

Sunflower - what a horrible situation for you, we shall all be sending you our best wishes xx

Maxjessdru, Fletch, BB - thinking of you and your friends and families. xx

This is getting worse, I'm so fed up with them on the radio now, they meander on and on, but have no answers or even any explanations for how it happened, today someone started on about the Wall Street Crash in the 1930s, but the connection to the question they were asked was somewhat tenuous! I don't know what will happen or when it'll end, but I have a sneaky feeling that we will be told it's ended only to find that once again the economy is working on smoke and mirrors.

Anyhoo! On the the bright side, I have been money saving, well actually it comes under the heading not spending really, a few things I've seen recently or thought of doing I've rethought, actually stood and considered whether I really need them or need to do them, and if so do is it necessary now - big change for me! Yes it's easy to resist buying that new pair of shoes, well actually not so easy for me, but I'm now thinking about the smaller things, I figure every penny I don't spend is a penny that might be handy in the future! I think I might try putting what I would have spent before into a money box for a few weeks, though when I count it up I might die of fright! Though I bet I'd have enough to buy one of the growy things and put toms in it - now there's a thought!

Mrs M - just a quick thank you, tried your lemon roasted potatoes the other day, how scrummy were they, I'm going to give them a go in the remoska next time. Your recipes never fail, have you ever done cooking professionally?

So glad you liked the potatoes.... and I have to confess that I went to catering college straight from school and qualified as a chef at 18-many moons ago ;) ... never did it as a trade as its the "devils job" rotten hours, money etc :p
Have to say Im more of a concoct it as I go along and not bother weighing measuring and timing cook..but it makes it a devil to share recipes :o

    Here you go triker-

the lemon potatoes are simple.... just peel potatoes and put in a large roasting tin... then I do 2 cups water and 1/4 cup olive oil and juice of 1-2 lemons and seasoning -pour over potatoes -cover with foil and cook until soft then remove the foil to crisp up -they are addictive... even cold :o -

forgot to say that once you take the foil off you will find that most of the liquid will evaporate... but this is suposed to happen ;)

    JUST THOUGHT
if you are doing them in the remoska -I would add a little less water -as the remoska seems to create liquid ....

  • Just wanted to send ((HUGS)) to all those facing redundancies at the moment. I am as worried as everyone else and am really saving the pennies at the moment.

It's awful, I made myself so sick just before Xmas worrying about it, I had to stop, it's out of my hands, the thought still pops into my head, but I just push it away - I can only deal with the facts in front of me, and today, I have a job and all of you wonderful people to keep me going, (even if I don't post much), reading all your positivity helps.

    Thinking of you all.x
