Hi everyone, well I didnt go to asda, but my cousin phoned last night and she had been to I think it was the Elgin Asda. She said she was disappointed and didn't notice much bargains. Indeed, things like bread she said were even more expensive. Sure deodrants were down to £1 each. I suppose we might see over the next week or so as more of us do our shopping, as the other supermarkets are meant to be doing much of the same.
I'm back to work tomorrow,it'll be nice to get back to normal. I feel for all those that do not have a job to go back to and hope that you find something soon. I'm in the NHS but by no means do I consider my job to be safe. I'm "trying" to save a little each month, just in case.0 -
Try to be extra aware of energy costings this quarter. I have just done the sums and estimate that this quarter will cost 3 times the last quarter. It is going to be a huge shock to a lot of people when they get the next bill. Yet another thing to budget for eh!! there is no end0

Hi All
Thought I'd finally join you and start posting on this thread as I normally read it, to curb some of my excesses.
2009 will be a complete change for me as I have finsihed work (contract came to and end and can't get a new one). I have two LO's who will be starting in the local pre-school so that removes the nursery costs.
I had always planned to give up work when the eldest starts school in April (have been trying to work part-time but that didn't work out). So bit of s shock to the system and I can get all the jobs done around the house.
We are having an extension built which is almost finished so once that is finished our finances should be clearer.
Our finances seem to have been in right muddle recently - but we have paid off the mortgage and got some savings so should be OK - I just want to get them back on track so we understand what we spend.
On a positive note I got given a kenwood chef for Xmas and my new kitchen will be operational soon. At the moment I have loads of ideas but as the LO's are only at pre-school 2 hours a day I'm not sure how much I am going to get done.
Plans include
Re-painting Lo's bedrooms
Sorting the garden out - front and back
Finish knitting jumper
Full declutter
Sort out the finances
Start cooking - 12 weeks of no kitchen is starting to get anoying.
Well - I've waffled enough - I'm off to join the grocery challenge
hels
just enviously read your post.
only working part time at the mo, would love to be at home more, oh is the main breadwinner.
really craving being at home, i used to think i would be bored and end up shopping all the time, but since finding this os board, think i could quite happily while away the hours

Hi SLJ - when you finish work you might be eligible to claim Tax Credits. If I remember correctly -a couple living on the wage your OH brings home is under the threshold, so unless its changed it would be worthwhile checking with local CAB/Social they are best people for advice. There is a thread on MSE for benefits - if anyone has the link you might be able to find out on there, or try website called entitledto.co.uk - just need to enter your basic finances and it will let you know if you can claim any benefits.
I went to Mr A yesterday as well to check out the so called 'price reductions' and didn't bother buying anything ¬ really disappointed. Not what was expected after all the hype - will carry on checking out all supermarkets as I go along, but with going back to work tomorrow, it won't be as easy as the last few weeks. Just lucky I still have a job. When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on

Hi all, just a quck note from NannaC to say hope everyone is well.
Have come into our front room to escape all the SOFA adds on telly:eek: . [grumpy grandad is an Emmerdale/Corrie stalwart], is it just me or does anyone else get REALLY cheesed off with Sofa/Beds/and that really irritating Kitchen ad.
Oh feel better now.:D
Has anyone heard from Sarah Happytails recently only little bump can't be far off making an entrance. :T
Its cold up here in Lancs as well, we looked after our littlest grandbaby today so we lit the fires early, after his dinnertime feed he was so full, warm and cosy that he soon snuggled down for his afternoon nap, as did Grumpy Grandad and our little old doggie Lucy. YEAH peace and quiet for NannaC except for triplicate snoring:rolleyes: .0 -
Hello there everyone, I hope all's well in your neck of the woods?
It's not been snowing up here with us in the Hebrides, but by golly, it's been cold! A good blast today though, so got two loads of washing dry outside
Heading back to work tomorrow, so at least the central heating won't be on all day - it's been on at 15 ºC during the day and no more than 18 ºC in the evening til we go to bed. I think I'll need to get more oil before the end of the month, but at least it's 20p a litre cheaper than when I got oil in September!! That'll make a difference!0 -
Hi all
I have been a bit on-and-off line lately. that's because at weekends I am trying not to be on the computer for too long, as I work on this machine every weekday (and take the opportunity to surf for a lot longer than just during my working hours!).
So I am just popping in to say hi to all after an afternoon's work and hope to post more in the coming days.
Love to all
CaterinaFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0
