Loads; which is why I don't have a storecupboard of essentials for that. If the end of the world happens and I die then so be it. If the end of the world happens and I survive then I'm old style enough to make do with the new situatio and just get on with it! ;)

OHHHHHHH everyone has been so busy it has taken me ages to catch up.
Have always kept a basic first aid kit in the house, ditto Grumpy Grandad keeps one in the car [we go to France occasionally and you have to have to carry one by law there]

Sarah Happytails bless you, bet you didnt expect all those replies to your posting, please please try to see it as well meaning advice form all your adopted Aunts/mums/nannas. In reality we have all thrown fiscal caution to the wind from time to time [I defy anyone to say hand on heart they have not] and are only trying to help you.

re store cupboard on other board all I can say is that we OS's veni vidi vici.

Rosie,I keep a little first aid kit on hand in the car,a few bits in my bag (sting stuff and plasters),and an [strike]enormous[/strike] larger one indoors :silenced: mostly due to DS3 and his escapades as well as OH being accident prone and DS1 being a hypochondriac :rotfl:

    Hi Folks

Just catching up with the thread after DS&2 have been monopolising the pc over the Xmas period.

I always keep a first aid kit to hand - paracetamol, antihistamines and plasters in my bag, OH has a larger first aid kit in the car, and there is probably enough to stock a chemist in the kitchen - I keep it in a tin on the highest shelf there so small children cannot lock themselves in the bathroom with the medicines  . I might be a paranoid hypochondriac but better safe than sorry.

Incidentally I stock the medicine chest twice a year - I have always found that cold remedies, calpol and the like are cheaper in the middle of the summer holidays, and you can get good deals on antihistamines in the middle of winter (hayfever and insect bites - can't you just tell I hate summer  )

Here's wishing a happy new year to you all, and lets hope the situation improves for everybody, no matter where you are.
SMILE....they will wonder what you are up to...........;)
  • Thanks for your replies folks - just what I needed!!

And Sunflower - bless you, you said exactly what I need to hear!

Thats a really good tip Freda :T There are usually offers on in Boots especially for 'out of season' stuff and if you join their health club thing you often get vouchers and bonus points for buying these too ;)

I love my micropose tape and always have reels of the stuff as well as sterilised pads..I always get a knock to patch someone up in the summer when they're all tearing around on bikes, most people were I live don't even seem to stock plasters.

Burn cream is another essential for me as I'm always catching myself on the oven rungs..I even managed to iron my belly one time :rotfl: *ironing in the summer in shorts and vest top before anyone asks*

Reverbe, could you have a look and see if there are any houseshares near you that you could move into? You'd probably still need to pay a deposit, but your rent would be less than in your own place and you'd have more chance of getting what you're entitled to in terms of benefits. Plus more privacy.
We had quite a cheap Christmas, got a fair few of the presents second hand or in discount shops which helped a lot. Had a joint of beef for the Christmas dinner and roasted the potatoes in the fat as well as making the gravy with the juices. We had enough left over to have another couple of meals, so one was beef stroganoff and the other was a beef and brocolli bolognaise.
I'm trying to work the next few recipes around the items we have in, so things working around flour and pasta and rice really. I'm thinking of making up a couple of pizza bases, some Yorkshire puddings and some pastry tomorrow and freezing them. Also got some soup mix which is excellent, I usually add any left over vegetables and/or scraps of meat and also some curry powder or herbs to add some extra flavour. I made some cabbage soup today and froze it, I think it's a bit too watery unfortunately but could always make some dumplings to add to it. I'm also going to get some soya mince as it lasts for ages.

The first one I remember was the Cuba misile crisis. I was in primary school and the staff told us all to play outside whilst they listened to the radio. Then the 3 day week and all those rolling power cuts. At least 3 recessions and the Yr2K and now the Credit crunch.

    Have I missed any?

...and then there is all those wars....Falklands War, Iraq Mark 1, Iraq Mark 2, Afghanistan....have I missed any of them?

...goes off muttering wondering just HOW much more money would be in the National Coffers right now if it hadnt been spent on all that....(I do come across the figures sometimes and they make VERY:eek: depressing reading indeed at just how much money has been wasted - even talking in financial terms alone).

But - back to your original point Mardatha.....I think its supposed to have been 5 isnt it....going right back through History...
