Cheesemaking Kits - has any one tried them?

Options
I came across a site that sells kits for small scale cheese making. Has any one tried home cheese making and what success have you had with it?

My mother used to make cheese at home, but had access to lots of free good quality milk - expensive if you have to buy the milk as you need a lot to make a small cheese. What stopped her in the end was being unable to buy Rennet, which turns milk into cheese - she used to buy it in boots. In reality, that's all you need - milk and rennet.
  • You can make strained cheese from yogurt very easily (comes out like Philadelphia in texture), but hard cheese is a little more complicated and does, as mentioned, need a fair bit of milk to start with. Worth doing if you can get milk cheaply though.
Have you had a look at https://www.Downsizer.net? There are several cheesemakers who post there occasionally and if you ask about different ways of making cheese at home without too much equipment you will get lots of ideas I'm sure.

you dont need a kit. I sometimes make paneer and all i need is a saucepan, sieve and one of my daughter's muslin cloths;)
