Spybot S&D won't update... Avira implicated?

Installed Avira yesterday and then today ran a standard Spybot S&D scan of my pc. This went well but I was surprised to get a message - 'Error retrieving update info file' - when trying to use the update manager.
Are the two events connected? I've tried again some hours later with the same result.
Adaware seems to run ok, so I'm mystified.

Have you tried a different update server? Open spybot and choose update, then choose from the update servers listed, occasionally one gives an error, I usually use SaferNetworking in Europe.0
