Can I Claim Mileage Allowance Twice?

in Cutting tax
I am presently in full-time employment and I am paid for my business mileage by my employer (12p per mile). I then at the end of the tax year apply for the remaining 28p and 13p respectively (depending on the mileage covered) from the tax man.
I have also recently started my own limited company which I work with during weekends and evenings and any other spare time I have outside my present full time employment.
My question is; can I also give myself 40p/25p from the funds created by my own part-time business for the business miles I cover whilst pusuing my own business venture. Secondly, if this is possible how do you suggest I go about recording this to provide the correct information to the tax man at the end of the tax year?
Thanks

Yes, you can do this. Just keep a mileage log in your car and fill it in every time you do a business journey. You only send it to HMRC if asked.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0

Yes you can do this.
But the mile limit before the rate changes down to 25p will apply to the cumulative mileage, you won't get the higher 40p/mile PER income stream.0 -
You can claim the usual 40p and 25p per mile.
And each employment is treated separately (so each has its own 10,000 mile higher rate limit)0 -

Mister E
I dont mean to question your reply but merely to confirm. As this is quite an important issue financially, particularly if it went 'pear shaped', could you point me in the right direction as to where an example of your conclusion is stated in UK tax guidance.0 -
"If you have two or more employers which are independent of each other, you're due the higher mileage rate for business mileage in each job."

Here is a link which shows that separate employments are not lumped together.

I can’t find anything to say that self-employment and employment are not lumped together.
This is the general rule

That would be good enough for me but you will have to decide for yourself.0 -
Many thanks guys. You have put my fears to rest and I can now operate without fear of making a catastrophic financial blooper.
