£5 off John Lewis

Just received an email with a code for £5 off John Lewis.
No minimum spend and like the £7 off a couple of weeks ago it also deducts from the p&p.

Code: Thanks
Expiry: 1st Jan - Midnight

Think its meant to be for flower orders but works on any order.

I used this code last night and my order was cancelled this morning, I think they are checking what exactly is being ordered and if it isn't flowers they won't allow it

is it me or does it look as if the code you used 'royalmail0546' is only for workers of royal mail and NOT for public use?

its like the same for nhs workers, their codes are usually nhsxxxxxx.

so unless you are a worker of those organisations you should not be using them as you are pretending to be someone you arent, which can be translated into simpler terms as fraud.

before you people use that code it would be best to search for the original source of that code and be certain that you are eligible to use it.

perhaps it would be preferable if you were to search yourself to ascertain the facts rather than post based upon your own speculation and nonsense and try to ruin this thread!

Furthermore, it wouldn't be fraud to simply use a code that's meant for a specific group of people - you are not asserting that you belong to that group at any point by merely using the code.

The code seems to be freely available - www.johnlewis.com/royalmail2 - and i can't see any terms like the ones you are suggesting!!

sorry for my rash reply without looking for facts. But no need to be abrupt....it just looked like it was for people with a certain criteria, but my fault overall i must admit.

However, the end product was no harm as someone like yourself replied to my post which totally contradicted my intial assumption, and people who were wary about it can be certain it as available to use.

On the side note, not to do with the code from johnlewis.
What i dont agree on is
Furthermore, it wouldn't be fraud to simply use a code that's meant for a specific group of people - you are not asserting that you belong to that group at any point by merely using the code.
To use a code that is intended for a specific group which you do not fall into, would be misuse of their code and could be interpreted as fraud simply because it could be said that you are imposing to be a part of that group. Even though you do not at any point have to assertain you are part of that group does not mean it is not fraud. You are still imposing to be someone or part of something which you aren't as the T&C will state that you will have to be of a certain group before using it.....so if you use it, you are accepting the terms and conditions.

another side note: i would not say i ruined the thread.

this is way off topic but...

i'm not sure what specific criminal offence you are suggesting would occur - but breach of any T&Cs is a civil "wrong" and not crime no matter how you make your claim. "Fraud" is a criminal offence and would probably require both the actus reus of the crime and the mens rea - it is difficult to see how both could be implied by solely using a code intended for another group of people. Mere misuse in such a manner is not a criminal offence known by any law in the UK as far as i'm aware. I'll happily apologise if i'm wrong but if so i'd be greatful if you could provide any case law or legislation that backs your assertion that misuse of a promotional code, which is otherwise meant for use by a specific group, on a website is a crime in Britain.
  • £10 off orders over £50 by entering perkz as the promotion code.

Used on a purchase yesterday and went through no problem - received confirmation of order this morning

yeah i do see this gettin off topic so this is my last reply.

maybe i may hav been wrong calling it fraud as it is highly seen as being a serious crime.

but i checked the definition of fraud before using it 'deliberate trickery intended to gain an advantage'....as with many words theres more than the one definition. this definition by no means is a serious crime.

guess its my wrong choice of words.
