Lexmark Z43 won't switch on!

I've got a Lexmark Z43 Inkjet printer which up till a couple of weeks ago was working absolutely fine but now it's suddenly refusing to switch on.

I've done all the obvious things - made sure the power adapter is plugged in, power is on, I listened to the power transformer and it is buzzing, and the cable is firmly in the back of the printer.
It just refuses to switch on, it's as if there isn't any power at all. I initially suspected the fuse in the plug but if the transformer is working fine then it can't be the plug fuse. And yes, I've checked that it is the correct transformer and that the voltage and current ratings match that on the back of the printer
It's out of warranty now so I can't go back to Lexmark about it
but any ideas from you guys?? :snow_grin

It sounds like it's dead0

have you tried lifting it off the desk approximately 5ft and then dropping??0
-
Very Funny!! I've only had it a couple of years!! Maybe I'll drop it first and then unscrew the bottom cover and see what awaits me.
Any bargains around for new printers then?0 -
But seriously is there anything I can do to remedy this? What could possibly be wrong here? It worked brilliantly before with photo printing and the like0

A shot in the dark, but there aren't any quickblow fuses on the case or on the board inside are there?
Have you tried taking the cartridge out?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
A friend of mine has exactly the same printer to you. He had the same problem a while ago and found out that the transformer/power adapter was overheating after leaving it pluged in for about 5 minutes. He called the helpline and he was told to unplug it when he had finished using it. It solved the problem, but it is a pain to keep plugging it in and unplugging it every few minutes.
If you do *lots* of printing, you might benefit from purchasing a new printer, as unplugging and plugging back in does get highly annoying. eBuyer have some great inkjet printers, 3-in-1s, laser printers etc. for a fraction of the price you would find them for in PC World.

Thanks for that - I have left the whole unit unplugged and switched off so I'm not too sure why it doesn't work because it won't work even when I switch it on and plug in.
If Lexmark say it's a problem with the adaptor overheating, aren't they doing some replacement programme?0 -

Heh. I wish I lived in the USA, they have LAWS to protect consumers. All US COmpanies are required by law to provide a freephone number for all customer support enquiries. In this country we pay up to 10p per minute through use of rip-off 0870 numbers
I can't even get through to Lexmark and although I've now sent an email through the site, I'm sure there's more chance of a pig flying through my living room than me getting a favourable reply
