These are great - got my 3 yr old one for Christmas and he loves it - ideal for travelling, and it plugs into the TV. I paid £80 in November for ours :-(Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Apart from the fact that the L-Max plugs into the TV as well as being handheld, what are the other advantages of getting the L-max over the normal Leapster? I was going to get one for my little girl this christmas, but she had other bits, so I am thinking about getting one for her 4th birthday in May.... Is it worth getting now do you think?? Maybe the nomal Leapster would be just as good and come down in price more nearer the time?? Help!!0

We bought the normal leapster for our 5 year old daughter last christmas, it has been the most popular toy we have ever bought. Our 4 year old and even 7 year old love playing it too. In fact it gets played so much we bought another (but pink) one this year for our 4yo.
When deciding on the purchase of another leapster over the L-max we decided against the l-max because when we tried one out we found the TV hooking up business a) more complicated to look at the tv while operating the handheld screen in front of you too! and b) putting it on the TV is so boring anyway, our kids bore of electronic games on the TV, it is much more submersable(not in water;)) in your hand.
I realise you dont have to hook it up to a TV and it is backward compatible with the original leapster games. So for that and at that price it maybe a bargain, leapsters are still more money than that!
Yet again though I think this is another of those ill thought out products (l-max) from Leapfrog that will feature....................probably 5 games!!!
We have no end of Leapfrog stuff and while it is very entertaining, the after sale support for games etc is usually absymal, leapster excluded of course:snow_grinThe early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.0 -
Thanks for this. In the meadows, Camberley/Sandhurst there are no leapsters or l-max's but they are selling off the vsmile games (but not the system). I dont remember all the games, but scootby doo, bob the builder and toy story were the ones I can remember...Syndicat D'Initiative0

Thanks so much Mew - we picked up the last one from our Tesco today and my little one is so pleased - he has wanted one for ages but I refused to pay that much as I thought it may be too similar to his Leappad. In the end he used all his Christmas money and says he loves it even more than the Leappad (and he has had great use of the Leappad).
So thanks again....The smallest deed is greater than the grandest intention ~ Anonymous0 -
I managed to pick up online a leapster max for £52 before Xmas through classiccombination - one of many arms of homeshopping direct (as had discount code)
it is great - there are not huge difference from what I can see between max and basic leapster but connecting to tv does me that the other children can watch and parents too without being huddled over console
backwards compatible with leapster games - some of which do display on tv too through link - the leapster (non-max version) dora game tells you to disconnect from tv as it does not work in that mode
main advantage I can see for max though is the max charging system with replaces battery compartment and the power supply for this can also be used as ac power supply for leapster max
I bought one of these on recommendation as the leapster eats batteries!Baby Milk Action is a non-profit organisation which aims to save lives and to end the avoidable suffering caused by inappropriate infant feeding.0
