I may actually be one of those who would qualify for it and although i won't say no (who would!), it does make me feel uncomfortable.
There are umpteem families who are just above the limit for receiving help who end up being worse off because they earn just a pound or two above (been there and done it).
If it does actually happen, not sure what I would spend it on.....maybe to pay in advance for my gas and electricity so we don't have to freeze in the winter months, fill up the freezer so I don't have to panic, get myself a coat (I don't actually have one!) and maybe some much needed clothes for my children (ebay/boot sale specials of course!).
Still doesn't make me feel anymore easy about it though. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
What does working full time get anyone nowadays? Gordon promises help for everyone except those who actually work and contribute to the pot.

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
on the same logic PN is everyone on a tracker mortgage or on the SVR robbed as you call it when interest rates go up0 -
I'd get out of me skull with a load of crystal meth, all me mates cases of White Lightening, have a punt on me favourite nags and get a 'bling' sound-system for me Nova. Maybe get her indoors some hair extensions. Then I'd vote Nulabour for ever in thanks, innit!
Phew! It was all just a dream!0 -

Miss kool, never has an avatar painted such a picture of someone on a forum who you don't know or haven't seen. Go on blow my preconceptions and tell me you are 78 years old.:D0 -
I'm a pensioner - so where's my £1,000!
I'll spend it - one day .......0 -
Probably wouldn't be able to - when you have savings the amount they assume you have coming in is a LOT more than the reality.QUICK!!QUICK!! Get yourself assessed for working tax credit!!!!
Just checked, their ridiculous calculation assumes I get £800/week in interest! un-be-bl00dy-lievable!0 -

As I see it, there's no way for any of the cashback to come my way - even though I've been robbed of close to £500/month (interest) through various interest cuts in the last year. Damned STR pot's the only thing stopping me being officially poor and getting onto the poor list! Income's officially poor, just not savings
Aren't you self employed? You could explore running your income through a Limited Company and paying yourself less so you get benefits and letting your savings build up untaxed in the company.
I don't know if that still works though.0 -
I think she's self-unemployed.
Maybe she needs an unLtd company?

I had 3 incomes:
- internet - income has dropped off a cliff in the last 2 months, now down to 40% of what it was
- interest on STR - dropped off a cliff thanks to all the interest rate cuts
- some private work - was never intended to be long-term and finished early October.
All in all, I am now "earning" about 1/3rd of what I was a year ago. And it all happend so suddenly.
Job time! ... in January.0
