was a bit curious myself on this one so did a google & found

    http://www.clickdocs.co.uk/news/view.asp?ID=777

The fur from cats and dogs can no longer be imported, exported or sold anywhere in the European Union (EU), following an EU-wide ban which came into force on 31 December 2008. The UK banned commercial fur farming in 2001 and has actively pushed the EU for a ban on the use of cat and dog fur for some time.

    then found

"This is a Government commitment to ban the importation and selling of dog and cat fur. The law will have to be changed to bring about a ban, which could be on the statute book by September, 2002.
