Lottery - No Hope

It's my weakness, each Saturday I buy £5 worth of tickets, hoping on Sunday to see a 3 or 4 figured amount in my online account, and of course it's never there. 14 million to 1 chance, why can't I get it into my head that it's just a poor mans tax.
I'm getting better at resisting most silly spends but this pipe dream is ridiculous. Better off just stashing it away in premium bonds or an Isa. £260 a year. Car tax ? Two thirds of my water rates ? Car insurance with change.

I agree - put your money into Premium Bonds if you want a gamble. At least you can have your money back from them.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Have you tried the demotivator to see how much you're spending on the lottery?
What not put the five pounds into an ISA each week, then one day reward yourself with the 'jackpot' of all you've saved. And if you like the excitement of hoping you'll win, why not head over to the competitions board and enter those instead - it's free!Debt at LBM (17/10/08) £5727.61 Debt free date 31/08/090 -

Why not buy £5 of premium bonds each week? It's like gambling, but you don't loose any money! (except interest)
btw, it's not 260 a year you loose.. think of the cumulative interest over the years0 -

you asked for one :A
I win on the lottery every week:j

If you can't give up the dream, why not just buy the one ticket each week - the odds are so far against you winning the jackpot that the difference between buying one ticket and five must be absolutely tiny.0

I always play a £1 a week on the Thunderball but the odds for winning £250,000 is 3,895,584.00 to 1 so a £1 pipe dream me thinks.:laugh:Free at last0
