...tried to scan with adware and every time it comes to something called cookies it shuts down the computer??? so never completes the scan.

You could try deleting all cookies, then running adaware again before connecting to the Internet (when the cookies will start to appear again).

Be aware though, that cookies hold information about you, such as login IDs (and sometimes passwords) so that you do not have to log in each time you return to a website. If you can remember all your IDs and so on, deleting cookies will not present a problem.

To delete cookies, from Internet Explorer go to Tools, Internet Options, Delete Cookies.

    Hello
i have tried to download AVG anti virus free edition, but once my computer has loaded two thirds of the programme, it closes without finishing the rest. Can anyone help me here..........also a friend suggested i use pcpitstop to find out why my computer is running slowly, does anyone have any comments to make about this programme. much appreciated, a very unhappy computer user.

Can anyone recommend free anti virus stuff for macs? ???
  • :)
Not sure if anyone has given this but this Anti-Virus program is top notch - it has been tested against the big name stuff and is out performs many of them in all aspects. Its call NOD32, link below:
    http://www.nod32.com/download/trial.htm
The only downside is that it has to be reloaded every month but its very quick and well worth the trouble. The free Grisoft software mentioned in this article is good but is always the "old" AV engine and will not be as sophisticated to pick up new or potential viruses. NOD32 is the latest version. 'nuff said.
  • My computer was absolutely crawling especially when browsing on the net so I thought I would try downloading some of the items suggested. I first tried AVG and it found a few things, but my browsing was still just as slow. I then tried Ad-Aware and it found 157 items that AVG missed. Although browsing on internet is still quite slow, (is this because I don't have broadband?), it is faster than before so thumbs up for Ad-Aware. :D
  • mamazaac,
Now do the rest and get Spybot search and destroy and Giant and be surprised at the items these find. :)
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.
