depressing

How depressing is this?

I was a very spoilt girl this christmas and was given £1500.

my dad asked what I was going to do with it and I had to confess that it's going on repaying my debts! I still hate the thought that my money is now paying for something I have already had as when I look around me, I have a load of rubbish I never use and/or wear!

Am now thinking of having a car boot sale to get rid of all my unwanted and unwatched videos and all of my unworn clothes.

boo hoo.

Mind you, the thought of getting rid of my credit card debts and being left only with my loan is keeping me going. I am aiming never to run up debts like this again!

Hi, just try to see it as an opportunity to get your debt paid down faster- I know I've never been given even one tenth of what you have for Xmas so you really are very lucky :). The sooner you pay your debts off, the sooner it will mean that when you are given money in the future you will be able to spend it on exactly what you like and treat yourself more.

Definitely give it a go selling some stuff to raise more money

It's possibly the best £1500 you'll ever spend. Now having been in that situation, I bet you'll never want to be there again. The future's bright and you can start the New Year with clean sheet and no debt hanging over you.

Congratulations lulabelle on your brilliant decision

Rather than a boot sale where you get pennies for your items, have to get up at dawn and get freezing cold. Why don't you think about selling videos, books, etc on Amazon Marketplace. There is a mega thread already going in the e bay forum explaining all about it.

I have to wonder as well if it is wise to throw all the money at just reducing the debt. Maybe a percentage could be put to work to generate more money?
A case of beer has 24 cans. There are 24 hours in a day...............Coincidence?
  • Thanks all.

I have to confess I've been in this situation before now and so I vow this is the last time. I'm lucky as my dad bets on the horses (only 20 a week - he can afford to lose that much) and then puts his winnings away and splits it 4 ways in the summer and xmas to give to my brother and I and he and my mum (my parents are v.sweet). I did exactly the same about 5 years ago (got given a cheque and had to throw it at my debts) and it's nuts.

My parents are so careful with money and have never been in debt (other than a mortgage which is fair play) and I've never wanted for anything so feel incredibly guilty I'm living beyond my means but have been taking positive steps over the past few months to redress the balance - it's too hard making all the changes at once so I've taken little steps at a time.

This board is so useful and its comforting to know there is support out there. I think that the last couple of months is the first time I've ever sat down and worked out exactly how much I owe.

By the way, does anyone know how to put a signature on these things??

Yes, click on 'user cp' which is under the title of this thread and then click on 'edit signature'. You can do it there ;)

Sell it all on Ebay/Amazon/Tradeit/Finidit/Car boot sale.
    Happy chappy
  • Try not to dwell on what it could be used for, at the end of the day whatever you buy won't be a patch on the feeling you'll get when you are out of debt completely and then you'll be able to buy treats without the guilt and stress you have when you're in debt, that ruins it for me everytime!

Good for you, getting your debts sorted out. You're getting your priorities right, nothing wrong in that. Well Done!!!! Give yourself a pat on the back. Hope you get somewhere with selling your goods at the car boot sale etc. Do your best to get decent prices too, don't give the stuff away. Good Luck with it all.
