A quick update on me

Hello everyone!

I've posted a few panicky questions over the last few months while we were in the process of setting up our DMP.
We are now up and running with CCCS and made our first payment in November. We have 10 creditors in total, mostly store cards. We haven't heard back from everyone but got a very funny letter from CCCS yesterday saying HSBC hadn't accepted our repayment amount, but to keep paying it anyway! Its such a change from 2 months ago when every letter was full of threats and the phone was ringing all night.

We've quidco'd all our regualr direct debits, we even got the £130 cash back from vodafone which paid for a new kitchen floor! We couldn't have done it all without this forum. :A

No need to reply - I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone for their help

  • Good luck with it all. CCCS are great and do recommend that you pay the creditors regardless of whether they accept it or not as they will either eventually accept or if it goes to court, it will show that you have been trying to pay.

You will find the creditors will keep ringing, refuse to answer their security qestions, give them your CCCS ref no and hang up - then ignore their calls.

Hi just a comment and then a question!!
HSBC seem to have a policy about not accepting offers- I am with Payplan and made my first DMP payment two weeks ago- I went into meltdown when HSBC wrote, not to Payplan, but to me, saying they would not accept the offer and would be getting a DCA in- Payplan managed (again) to scrape me off the ceiling- HSBC just sell their bad debts, in come Mr DCA  and acc to Payplan he is much more open to negotiation than HSBC:T - reason? They buy the debts for tiddlywinks, so anything they get over and above what they have paid is a bonus.
So- if you continue to make regular DMP payments, I have read on here that usually settles creditors down. So its seems to me- you work out what you can afford- you make the payments- you keep telling creditors thats all you can afford- and it all starts to work- but I never realised it would be this much hassle for so long- my LBM was Jan this year so I still have alot to learn!
now debt free and determined to maintain good spending habits and build savings

    Hi,

I am in the same position too. I started on DMP with Payplan in January and once again HSBC will not accept my payment. Payplan advised to just keep paying it and my debt will then be sold on. Every other company has been fine, but HSBC are still adding interest and charges every months for debt has risen by £700 since I started the DMP. Feels like I am fighting a losing battle!

HSBC are the ones we have had problems with, they even phoned OH - he isnt as MSE as me and actually spoke to them - and they asked how his debt problems started and he said it was their fault giving him a £500 over draft at 16! - Which Im pretty sure is illegal as although he was working he wasnt old enough to get credit??
Keep going and they soon shut up though lol

Let HSBC sell it on. It freezes interest etc so when you are paying back what you can it comes off the balance. HSBC don't actually sell it on as such, they pass it on to their in-house DCA - MCS (Metroplitan Collection Services).

My hubby's debt was huge and he now pays it back and the balance is coming down.
