Coffee machine

Options
Can anyone give me some advice. I want to buy a coffee machine, one that uses either pods or the bags so it can make single cups easily. Also, I would like one that has the steam attachment (whatever it is called).

I don't drink coffee, but children and mother do and tney like nice coffee, so the steam thing is important for that cappachino and also then as at least I can then use it to make a nice hot chocolate. I did like to the look of the Tassimo machine, but it is far too expensive.

Any advice on what one to get? Also any idea where the best deals are?

  • Our machine is on constantly as O/H will only drink this type of coffee and our lastest machine is a Kenwood. Its has a very large jug so is great and we paid about £30 quid for it from Currys. We have previously had a combined coffee/cappachino maker but found it very messy/fiddly and the steam was very hot so becareful where the kids are concerned. We now have a small hand held gadget that whizzers the milk if required which also cuts down on the cleaning of the machine and the cost as it was only £5.

  • It depends on how much you want to spend, but we've just bought a Kenwood Eon (15 bar) from Comet, which was reduced from £200 to £100 and it is worth it's weight in gold. It can be used with coffee pod things, or it has the filters for one or two cups. It has the steamer on the side for lovely hot frothy milk too. It is easy to clean, as all the parts go in the dishwasher. There is even a cup warmer on the top too. Once you are used to it, after a couple of go's, its FANTASTIC !

I've just received a Philips Senseo for xmas and it's fab! SO easy to use, I think it was £40. The coffee pods are a bit expensive mind, but I've been searching the internet for cheaper deals. The one I've got can take 1 or 2 pods at a time. Personally, being a true moneysaver, I re-use the same pod twice!! or I have been experimenting using 2 pods together and making 3 cups! Anyway, it is neat and easy to use and makes the coffee really quick.

Shanni the Senseo pods are currently BOGOF at Sainsbury - I picked up quite a few to keep my OH going.

We bought the tassimo a few months ago and hubby moaned another expensive gadget that will gather dust, we bought it from costco and i think it worked out at £80 ish maybe less and we all love the machine and its used on a daily basis, the thought of coming in and boiling the kettle when you can come in and push a button, hubby loves the cafe creme coffee and i love the capachino and the ability to have a lovely hot chocolate too and you can normaly find the pack 4 for £10.

I used to use a top-notch coffee machine with steam nozzle but found it to be just too much hassle for one cup of coffee, so bought a Uno pod machine from Comet when they were flogging them off for a tenner! Great litle thing - no messing around, just turn on, wait about 30 seconds, slap in a pod and away you go. Similar thing to the Philips Senseo machine, and I use the Senseo pods. If I was buying again, I'd get the Senseo.

The steam frother I used to have didnt really froth very well and had to be cleaned after each use.

I am leaning towards the Tassimo atm, as it does the hot chocolate and has some good reviews, it is also only 65 with Amazon at the mo, and I have a 5 voucher and can get nectar points.

The Woolworths machine is ace (currently £39.95 but has been £24.95 and will come down again !). Adapters are available online for pod thingamajigs.
