Apple cider vinegar?

Does anyone know where I can buy apple cider vinegar without ordering it online? I can't find in in any supermarkets, and Holland & Barrett only do it in tablet form.

I can find cider vinegar, but not apple cider vinegar which I believe is totally different.

thanks in advance

I've always thought they were British & American terms for the same thing ... vinegar made from cider, made from apples

I'm interested to know the difference, I'll be keeping an eye on this thread to find out :)

Yes, I thought they were the same thing too, until a South African friend told me not to buy plain old cider vinegar...it had to be 'APPLE' cider vinegar. (It's for my husband - he gets terrible mouth ulcers which spread to his throat, and acidy stomach and apparently apple cider vinegar is a 'miracle' cure for both.)

    Perhaps someone can enlighten us??

    They are the same thing:

I believe you are looking for the unpasturised version
  • Like Bongedone says, they are basically the same thing, the difference being that 'apple cider vinegar' will be unpasteurised and will have a load of sediment in the bottom of the bottle. The 'cider vinegar' you buy will be filtered so that it's just a clear, light brown liquid, and will probably have been pasteurised in some way.

Can't say I've ever seen the unpasteurised version for sale ... do you live near a wholefoods shop or something like that, they might have it in, or they might be able to point you in the direction of someone who makes it.

Mr T stocks an organic cyder vinegar, the brand name begins with A
  • Aspalls? I think lol ...
  • I did look on Wiki, and saw that anything advertised as having 'Mother' (the cloudy sediment) is the more potent version. The cider vinegar you can buy in the supermarkets looks like wine. Oh well, if they are the same thing I will just get him to gargle with the cider vinegar!
