Sausage or egg with chips?? Can't afford both

Hi everyone..

A sense of humour is definitely needed when in our situation.....OH and I have just been shopping, and on the way back we were deciding what to have for tea. OH suggested, sausage, egg and chips......not unreasonable you may think, but after some discussion and lots of laughter we decided we could only have one or the other.... How did we get in this situation???.......Oh well at least we are managing and our debts are coming down........ 3 years from now we might be able to have a take-away.....yipee..

  • Hi elsie

I just wanted to pop on and say well done for having made such fantastic headway with your debts, by my reckoning just over £15k in 8 months - that is fantastic!

  • Hi there i know exactly where your coming from & its lucky that you can laugh about it! Like you say you do need a sense of humour otherwise you would crash & burn. I`ve felt the same but am now seeing the tiny pin p r i c k(stupid word sensor!) of light at the end of the tunnel. I still have a long way to go but am getting there!

Definitely sausages and chips for me! One vote that way!
  • egg and chips - but go over to the Old Style board for a whole thread on potatoes and eggs for even more options ;)

Well done - I cleared my debt in around a year (25k) and it's bloody hard work and a bit never ending, but it can be done and the weight that lifts is amazing at the end of it.

What I would suggest is a tiny treat here and there and build it in to your budget (but only a tiny one mind you ;) )- even a takeaway every 2 months just to ease the pain of the slog will help you feel there is light at the end of the tunnel.

    Hi everyone.

Thanks for adding to this......I will check out the other board. I am quite used to making my housekeeping stretch....that's what is quite annoying. When our 3 children were small and even when they were teenagers and living at home I had to make meals from anything just to fill them. I always baked, cooked and made our clothes.....Then I got a job and worked full time which left no time for anything else. We had more money and therefore SPENT more money.....sometimes I think being short of money does you good. It brings everything back to basics. We now have to think before we buy anything....do we really need it and can we really afford it. It's a hard lesson to learn but it's one I don't want to repeat once we are sorted out....

The only way is up, and its sometimes fun seeing how much or how less you can manage on....keep smiling all....:j

    Hi Elsie,

Thanks for making me smile today:rotfl: We have egg and chips once a week now - and DH and DS absolutely love it - so much so we sometimes have it twice a week - who'd have thought it?

I love reading the MSE boards because I know I'm not alone.:D
