importing info wanted

can anyone tell me a bit about importing something from china to the uk? would i have to pay any import charges ect?

I think you have to pay VAT and i think you may also need to pay a Customs Admin Charge, i think, not sure,0

It really depends how, and what you are importing.
You will have to pay VAT and duty to HMRC, but then obviously you can claim that back as a VAT registered business.
You will need to appoint a broker on your behalf to deal with the shipping lines, Chinese factories and HMRC.
You will have to pay freight to get your goods to the UK - THIS IS NOT CHEAP!
I work for a forwarding agent (basically a broker mentioned above) and deal with this daily. I wrote a post on it a short while ago, basically even the big guys are struggling to import now because they're not making profit in the current economy.
I'll answer any questions I can.
The basic answer to your question above, is "Yes, potentially you will have to pay alot of import charges of various forms".0
