I have heard that The Gap will refund some of your money if you buy something and then it goes into the sale within a certain amount of time. Is this true and if so what is the time restriction?? Thanx.

I worked for Gap for 5 years and it's a brilliant idea that hardly anyone knows about (although written on the back of receipts). This year, I bought lots of gifts on Dec 24th and I'm going to wait 14 days and then take my receipts back in. You only get one price adjustment on each item though so wait the full 14 days if you can as during this period there may be more than one set of markdowns.
My Dad uses this trick every Christmas and often gets nearly £100 back in one swoop! It's also useful if you see something you like but think it's too expensive. If you're worried that it's going to sell out then buy it and see if it gets reduced. Then you can either keep it or return it if it doesn't. (You can return items for up to five years from purchase with a receipt - crazy Yank policy.)
You can do it all year round on both sale items and full priced merchandise. Plus another misconception is that you need to take the clothes back to get the refund. Nope, just the receipt so you can wrap the clothes and give them away and sit back and wait for the items to get reduced even further!0 -
what happens if that item is out of stock...do they still virtually reduce it even if none of their stores are showing the item in stock? whats the catch i say? how can gap make any profit with this policy?0

You can still get the price adjustment even if the item is out of stock.
All they do is put the number in the till system and they use that price, regardless of whether they sold out weeks ago or not.0 -
Also forgot to say that you can get the adjustment at any store. So you can buy something at one of the bigger stores with a wider range of stock and then get the price adjustment two weeks later at your smaller local store.
When I used to do price adjustments for customers, half the time I didn't know what the items were - all you had was a rather ambiguous code on the till receipt! e.g. FG CLSC £14.99. (Men's Fine Gauge Classic Poplin Shirt in case you're interested!)
(This policy is also valid in the US if any of you visit there. Gap is 14 days and so is Banana Republic although I think Old Navy is only valid for 7 days.)0 -
Thanks for all the info..I was annoyed I had bought a couple of things at the beginning of last week and then they both got reduced in a few days. Someone told me about this but I thought too good to be true but now i will be sure to head in tomorrow to claim back some money!0

Or Wilsoc9a, wait the full 14 days if you can.
I know that there will be some more reductions before New Year and also possibly again on the 3rd, so if you can wait as long as possible you might catch two or three reductions and the price would be really cheap!0 -
If they have the goods in the same size an colour stock I always rebuy them, take them back on the origianal receipt and then you have paid the cheaper price and also get 14 days to do a price adjustment if they get reduced again.0
