£3000 is a heck of a refund, even over 5 years! I would be a bit cross if that was me! These companies just look at the code numbers operated against your pay each year and check that they are correct. Their main thrust is to ensure that you have been give all the expenses you are entitled to - but you can really easily do that yourself - there is a neverending thread on here about it.
£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths

Nothing is stopping you writing to the tax office with your last 6 years earnings and info from P50 to see if you're entitled to a refund.
My suggestion and/or advice is my own and it is up to you if you follow it, please check the advice given before acting on it.
  • If the company gets your expenses figure wrong (this is known to happen quite often) and you get a refund of say £2000, they will take their commission, but when HMRC find out that the figures were wrong (may take 2/3 years, they can legally take 6 years), they will come back to you and ask for they money back in full.

I would write to the HRMC directly.
  • Easy money for them, who are IMO the 'ambulance chasers' of the tax/accounting world.

Phone HMRC yourself and only employ an accountant for genuine and/or complex situations that you can't address yourself.

Ignore this. The OP is just scamming.
First post; seemingly innocent question; helpful link .... all the signs.
