New Member.. Advise please Re: McKenzie Hall and Phoenix Recoveries

Hello All

I have just registered with this site as last night at 7.30pm I had a phonecall from a really nasty scottish lady from McKenzie Hall saying that I had to pay her £271 immediatley!! I asked her what she was talking about and she replied that they have sent me letters (dated 4 and 6 Nov which I still havent received) and now they are chasing me for immediate payment. At this point I still dont genuinely know what she is talking about so I asked her and she said that her company was acting on behalf of Phoenix Recoveries and they had gt the original debt from Great Unversal. I explained that I didnt have a Great Universal account, at which point she told me it was a debt from 2001!!! i told her she must have the wrong person and she said that she definatley didnt and that the account was used for 6 months and I had to pay up. I still denied all knowledge of the debt which I am pleased about as I have only just discoved something called Statute Barred. I then asked her for details of this so called Great Univerdsal account, to which she replied 'and why woould we have that?' so I said 'ok can you give me the details for Phoenix Recoveries' to which she replied 'try looking on the internet'. I explained that obviously I needed to know what debt she was talking about. She said that 'I best pay up' in quite a threatening manner.

So my question is lovely helpful people, where do I go from here? what do I do now as I cant find any numbers for Phoenix and I really dont want to go to GU as I'm sure I'd end up sounding like a lunatic!!

Please help as I am really worried about this and people coming to my door.

Do not phone this mob at all.

If you do not think this is your debt, I would be inclined to refuse to answer their calls, do not deal with the security questions and when they carry on, tell them that you do not owe the money, and are taping the calls to support a complaint to the Office of Fair Trading, The trading Standards Office nearst their office who know them well, and to the Information Commisioner.

They may well go away at that point.

if nopt, you can demand that they remove your phone number from their records.
