I have claimed a tax rebate online and it is taking ages. It does state 5 working days (heaven knows why) but it's already 7! I have phoned to confirm bank details and they say it's on it's way. I'm just wondering if others have had problems.

If it's only 7 days I wouldn't be too worried, specially as they say it's on the way.0

Just wondering but when you say you claimed a tax rebate do you mean you filed your self-assessment tax return online? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I've overpaid
repayment better description:o 0 -
 phoned today and was told it's still is the process
It's quite a large amount and I was told this can take longer than small amounts!! WHY????!!!!
It's mine and I want it back asap, they get their money on time and surcharge if they don't - I'd love to do that too. I was told it could take up to a month !! WHAT!!!
OK rant over - breathe...;)0 -
Bad news Im afraid my brother was due a rebate and it took HMRC almost 2 months to send it and then it was sent by cheque rather than the usual bank transfer.
:rolleyes:;):cool::o:rolleyes:;):o:o:cool:0 -
Mine is to be direct into my account - eventually.
Still no idea when, I've chased it every week and they just keep telling me 'it needs approval first'. I'm really confused as they confirm I'm due the amount, I've had a statement confirming amount overpaid AND it's showing online as such. I've given online and verbal confirmation of details - what more do they need??? It's amazing how quickly they take it but how slowly it returns :mad:0 -
Well, seeing as when I was in HMRC they were trying to replace all us trained staff with short term contractors to do data entry into a system that didn't work, while at the same time making us clear up the mess of the non-functioning system (meaning everything was done twice) and we had a backlog of work that needed doing, but we weren't allowed to touch because it was too old and would make our figures look bad if processed....erm....I'm not surprised it's taking a long time. I could tell you some horror stories about workloads, but if you want anything done quickly, do the following:
Write a letter, as it will go into correspondence, which has a same day turnaround target from date of receipt. Other forms have a 7 day turnover and if they need reviewing, possibly longer.0 -
My brothers was meant to be paid into his account as well but he still got a cheque, keep an eye on your post just in case.
Hope it turns up soon!

thanks for replies, but depressing isn't it? Shame I don't owe them money I'm sure my responses would be quicker from them

I'll be on the phone again tomorrow after postie comes (about 3pm but that's another tale of woe...)0 -
Hi
I do know that over a certain amount that the person you usually speak to on the phone has to refer it to a more senior member of staff for the payment to be approved, which can take a few more days. I expect its to do with money laundering regulations and their rules for dealing with overpayments.Lost 2 stone 12.5lbs since February 2011. :j0
