Credit rating issue
Following a messy divorce, a credit card that I had in my name became in arrears. After my divorce went through and I recieved a sum of money I was able to pay the debt in full , but by that time the debt had been passed a debt collection company ( 3 in fact !! ) and it was one of them that I paid.
As a result my credit rating is classed as fair - i have never defaulted or been late on anything else !!
Recently i have been turned down for Loans etc and I can only assume it is due to the default - the debt agency will not remove the item from my credit rating ( experian have tried )
I know what happened was wrong but is there anything i can do?
Thanks in advance.

There's nothing you can do - the default is recorded on your file/s as it is factual information.
There is no reason for anyone to remove the default as it wasn't recorded wrongly.
This is why you have been declined for credit recently.0 -
Have you got copies of your credit files . It may be that your ex is still financailly linked with you!!
Also did you default with the bank/credit card or the collection agency?
If the default is with the bank/credit card company then ask them for a copy of the default.
A collection agency cannot register a default against you , if you defaulted with someone else. they can only register a default,if you did not pay them.
i have just been in this situation, the default was with abbey but moorcroft registered a default as well but I had never defaulted then...i couldn't i only paid £1 per month!
Ask the collection agency for a copy of the default that they sent you...if they cannot supply it then the default has to be removed!!
I hope this helps ...PM me if you are stuck

i would contact the company direct and threaten legal action as giving a 16 year old a overdraft is no sign of resonsible lending and illegal anyway
good luck let us know how you get on
_andy_ please find some evidence to back the post up saying that is is factual information when the op was underage so it is infact recorded wrongly!!!!!!
What on earth are you talking about? Where does the OP (who clearly isn't interested given they haven't responded anyway) mention they were under 18, or that it was an overdraft?
I responded to the first post in this thread - please re-read that first post.
The OP was referring to credit card debts, makes no mention of being under 18, and in any case mentions a divorce, which I doubt would happen at age 16.0 -
