Problem with the free water coupon from Saturday ??

In Saturdays Express ( I think it was ) there was a coupon for a free bottle of Bio Water at Tesco.
I took my dad to the supermarket and he added one of these into his trolley, with his other items of shopping. I have noticed last night when I called to see my parents that the cashier scanned the item then after totalling up the bill, she scanned the coupon which actually added the cost on and did not deduct it. I was stood there as she did this, so it wasn't that she scanned the bottle twice.

It is only because I had put a couple of bits in the trolley and was working out how much I owed my parents, I noticed this. In effect he has paid £1.98 for a 99p bottle of water, he most likely wouldn't have bought in the first place. He only got it as I :o said he might enjoy it.

Has anyone else come across this ?

  • This has happened with this coupon several times before, it adds it on instead of taking it off, I don't bother with them any more. It's very naughty that it hasn't been sorted by now.

Yes this has happened before, as Harriet says. Just take the receipt to the CS desk next time you are in and explain what happened, it's a known glitch with the coupon.

When I used mine it wouldn't scan so I think my local Tesco had blocked it, possibly due to this problem having happened before? I had to reclaim my money from the CS desk afterwards - as I had bought the item - but at least I hadn't paid twice.

The same problem can also happen with coupons taken from packaging, if the product barcode is on the back of the coupon. Such as the Oasis moc for £1 off (on flashed bottles of Oasis only) - you have to watch that the cashier scans the correct side of that moc (or cross out the product barcode in marker pen first).
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
