Saw the SAGEM Rear Proj. running in Comet... stunning, stunning TV. Feed was from DVD, but still was far and away better than anything in the store. Incredible, from all angles.

It was sat next to the Panny Viera Plasmas which are first class.... blew them away for clarity....and it just made a mockery of the LCD's.

If I had the cash I'd buy an RP over a Plasma, so long as it had that Texas Instruments DLP chip inside.... the new technology for light focussing etc....
Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!

i have a toshiba 42" rear projection tv.

Had it for about 3 years now.

Never had any problems with it, Picture is excellent, never had any problems with what ever angle it is being looked at.

Only issue to watch out for is the burning on the screen, we have sky and has not yet effected it tho.

scary part was i paid £1200 when new and in the manual it said something on the lines of

please dispose of telly properly once gone.

NOT what i wanted to be reading after spending £1200.. i wanted it to out live me :o .... lol
  • Have you tried https://www.robertwhyteltd.co.uk click projection televisions and you should find a Sony KP44PX3U for £769.99 that's a 44 inch screen, also under Demo products they have the sony KP44PX2 for £649.99 also 44 inch screen, I have heard very good feedback about them.
    stay lucky!
    Steve.

    .

The quality of the Sagem comes in large part from the very high resolution display. I guess the set extrapolates from relatively poor quality DVD when genuine HDTV source material is not available.

As mentioned by several other people, CRT TVs probably still offer the best quality picture. I saw a CRT HDTV in Japan and, even compared to the Sagem, it was in a different league. They get HDTV on some regular broadcast channels over there.
  • Re black TVs it depends how much you want to pay, etc., etc.  Finlux TVs which I believe are good quality are available in both colours - see http://www.beststuff.co.uk/finlux_range.htm and then price compare elsewhere if you are interested.

Thats pretty intresting ....... i thought that Finlux stopped making TV's years ago ..... we used to have one with a sky decoder built into it.

Finlux used to be owned by Nokia ....... they are good quality.

Although if you want a black widescreen then Marko are selling black flat tube JVC's pretty cheap.

is it just me that thinks all these new TVs with there digital processing n stuff, look really crap with loads of artefacting and contrast problems?

most of the big widescreens today look awful compared to decent TVs from 10 years ago.

    Hi

I recently purchased ny Toshiba 42inch rear projection from Argos in the sale, managers special £475.00 I also purchased the 3 year extended warranty for £105.00 this covers the bulbs & anything else that affects the screen or picture quality.

My wife works for one of the national electrical stores so is well genned up on warranties etc... Most large stores do not cover bulbs on projectors, or gas leakage on plasma or dead pixels on LCD.

If buying an LCD screen tv or monitor always buy it online. If you discover a dead pixel on arrrival you can send it back within 7 days under the Distance Selling Regs. No electrical shop will accept an LCD back unless there are 3 dead pixels.

Comparing the LCD projection tv to my 10 month old toshiba 32 inch widescreen tv I have noticed the following.

1 Large picture is so much better
2 You do not need a dark room for best results
3 the screen does not attract static so is relatively dust free
4 the projection tv is slimmer than my old CRT
5 Star Wars on DVD looks superb on it.

    Bad points

no room underneath for sky box or dvd etc...

Large screen shows the pixels really bad with Sky & NTL digital, this is due to the low bit rates on certain channels & compression issues.

My wife hates the large TV in the living room.

I am very happy with my tv & would recommend them highly.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards

    Gary
