I think we should have a lot more names by now on the Petition - there are approx. 300,000 presbyterians in the whole of Ireland!!!! Of course we do not know the number of written signatures yet!

Lets say approx half of all presbyterians in Ireland have been affected and are involved in this debacle, by way of congregational loans, congregational deposits, individual members' deposits and individual ministers' deposits.

Seems a bit strange the low numbers of support.

What a load of cr*p from Arlene Foster in today's Newsletter [freddieMae link], yet another authority weasel wriggling to get off the hook.
She said: "The crisis facing the Presbyterian Mutual Society was brought about as a direct consequence of the decisions taken by the Government.

I don't agree with this statement. Shift the blame why don't you Arlene?

    and
When the chancellor guaranteed the customer savings of Financial Services Authority-regulated institutions like Northern Rock it placed a strain on the mutual society with many customers engaging in panic withdrawals of money.

yeah right - didn't see other [church or not, related] UK mutuals and unions having this problem.
  • Question to Minister Foster - Who was the regulatory authority responsible for monitoring the conduct of the Presbyterian Mutual Society up until it went into Administration on 18 November?

What political pressure was applied and by whom to get this crazy NI exemption from protection for vulnerable credit unions?

Who is accountable for this? Unionist politicians?

  • I agree there should be many many more votes.

    But just a thought:

Presbyterians living in the South of Ireland who are Irish Citizens cannot vote on line as it states you have to a British Citizen/ or Resident.
