THE UK Government has admitted that there are "issues" with regulation of institutions like the troubled Presbyterian Mutual Society (PMS) and that there are "lessons to be learned for the future".
The information is significant, because the Government has up until now rejected any responsibility for the current crisis, saying the PMS directors were operating beyond their remit and had strayed into offering banking services.

:T Good spot T&B. This would appear to be excellent news. Now watch them all fall over each other as they run for cover.0

Is that a stable door I hear being slammed now the horse has bolted?0 -
not all the horses have bolted yet.
OFMDFM meeting Gordon Brown on June 17 about PMS....
and if you look at Hansard last week Shaun Woodward directly appealed to the Prime Minister to help.
Personally, I think there is sometimes too much focussing on the half empty part of the glass.... and who was responsible for spilling the first half of the wine, as opposed to working towards realistic solutions....
until the Government completely rejects any chance of help it is all to play for and lobbying should be the key focus.....imho!0 -
also.... I am not following this very closely here, but appears that some people who have nothing to do with this situation are openly coming onto this blog to actually exacerbate friction between church members....
I suggest we be cautious as to whose lead we are following.
That is not for a second to exonerate people who might have been negligent....0 -
Who can we write to now to ensure the pressure is kept up??
What about a trip to Downing Street anyone?????0 -

Fine - I have nothing personally to gain so I will bow out now - If I hear anything to your advantage I will let you know. I was disgusted by your church's response to vulnerable savers - sort it out among the members then.0 -
FM - this is a free speech forum and I have no right to ban anyone.
My opinion is just that the focus should be primarily on realistic solutions.0 -
trip to downing st on 17 June to show support for the OFMDFM delegation???
sounds interesting.... worth checking with some of the ministers involved if it would actually be constructive...
Ian Gibson and co have been doing a sterling job of lobbying... perhaps someone could ask him his view on what to focus on next.0 -
Freddiemae PLEASE don't go ...In my opinion you've provided much useful & helpful advice and suggestions in the past and your contributions would be missed by many if you were to 'bow out now.'
We're all old enough to make up our own minds about what has happened and what might happen now and in the future.
I think there is room on this forum to hear everyones opinion,as long as it's not a personal attack on the savers ...we can do without that sort of contribution.0
