  • I'll be spending less but that's through having no other choice. Just split up with my husband and still sorting bills and benefits out so not much spare to fling around!

Blimey- you lot are making me feel guilty! I haven't done any Xmas shopping yet!!!

Lol :) mine are all wrapped and in the pressie cupboard :j
  • I have completed my Christmas shopping for the children, just got my parents and my grandmother to buy for, am going to get the kids to personalise a wooden tray for both.

I have 3 children and 3 step children, ranging from 16 years to 2 years. The younger 3 have got second hand toys (from Ebay) and clothes (from Ebay). Also duvet covers (new from Ebay)

The older 3 wanted clothes or ipods, so explained they wouldn't get lots of pressies, fine they said and then produced a list from the Next Book. Got step daughters clothes from George at Asda, under half the price of what she'd picked out of Next! Step Son had heart set on Ipod so managed to get one reduced, but he understands thats all he'll get.

I remember Christmas as a happy, cosie time with family and friends around, which is what I try to give my lot. I love seeing everyones faces when they get what they'd really like.

My hubbie and I aren't buying for each other. I've arranged a weekend away for us both in January, no kids, just us time, so we're saving for that.

Been to Poundland for Christmas wrapping and cards.

This year I have spent a lot less on xmas.
Back in August when I had my light bulb moment, I spoke to my 4 sisters and it was agreed we would only buy for the kids (7 in total)
I have enough samples from the freebies board to fill mine and DS stockings.
DS has written his xmas list, so I have asked grandparents to send money before xmas so I can buy him things from his list and wrap them (also saves them postage costs)
Spent no more than £5 on each niece and nephews, and 50p each on token things for close friends kids.
Brought my xmas cards in Aug in next clearance shop so spent £1 in total for nice cards.
Works secret santa present has to be £20
Will bargain hunt and may spend less, without them knowing ofcourse!

Im doing my first Xmas at home, its just me and my DS. For xmas sweets im gonna buy packs of his favourites, like fudge etc and put in a bowl.
We dont like xmas cake or xmas pudding, so will make fairy cakes and he has instructed me that he wants banana split for pudding! :rotfl:

I think this will be our best xmas so far because it focusses on us being a family unit.

    Thanks for all the responses.

It seems to me that the general consensus is that it is not necessarily that people have cut back on the value of presents, but that they HAVE cut back on the price they pay for things.

    very interesting
