Overpayments have caused Halifax to reduce monthly payments?!?!?

I rang them. They said it's not a problem. I'll wait and see what comes out of the bank account next month.0

Be warned - they charged me £10 for reducing the term. Now I just OP by the amount I can, plus the amount reduced. Swings and roundabouts!
I did get the £10 back when I complained, because it wasn't really specific in the T&C's, but I won't be doing it again!

Ask them to put your DD at x amount then you are not asking to reduce the term or overpay (although obviously that is what will be happening)
It's what I did with my Abbey one when I was limited to overpayments and meant that I could still overpay as well as have the DD level set at a rate suitable for me.
