help please

hi there, I have juts registered with the site and I'm hoping to find some friendly advice.

I have recently joined a supply list for teachers but it is providing no work for me. I have had no income for some time and I am in a bit of a pickle. I have total credit card debts of £5000. I am very close to the limit on all my cards and I am having to withdraw cash from the cards to make the monthly payments...

My partner has tried applying for a card with 0% balance transfer as he has a good job. But even he has not been successful and I am running out of ideas. My friend has advised that I should just contact the card companies and tell them my sitaution. Does anyone have any other advice?

thanks

Not sure thats a good idea, credit card co's not really known for being on your side. They'll just look at your credit record and if somethings amiss then that will be that. Think the days of being given a cc at the drop of a hat are long gone.
Is it possible to get some other type of employment while the teaching thing comes up, lots available at the moment, short term for christmas.
Try posting your SOA and let people on here go through it to see where you might make some savings.
    Good luck.

  • Hi fedup

If you are struggling to meet minimum repayments then you can speak to one of these organisations for free:

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/loans/debt-help-plan#help

They will help you understand what your options are
£34,547 (Dec 07); Current debt: £zilch (Debt free December 2010)
    Sealed Pot #389 (2010=£133)
  • Have you tried approahing schools directly for supply teaching? Go armed with your cv and crb form and ask to go on their supply list. This will cost a school less than going through an agency and you can build up a good rapport with schools local to you.
  • Hi
Which agency are you with? Which area, only because I used to work supplying teachers, think slummymummyof3 is correct approaching direct can help because they're all starting to look for their PPA cover now, meaning you're just in time for them to look at you. Also you will be cheaper than certain agencies.
