I wondered if anyone else on here was using Second Life as a means of additional income?
I make virtual products and sell them in Second Life.... a lot of fun actually. But quite hard work and a lot to learn about the platform itself before you can even get started.

What kind of products do you make? I am a bit confused as to how any 'real' money can be made this way, even though I have played Second Life a bit.0

I've enough trouble keeping up with finance in my first life!" The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

to be fair it's very, very difficult to earn a decent income from second life.
you realistically need to pump a fair amount of money in and at least buy a decent sized sim to get an income.
i remember reading somewhere that something like only 2% of the 3+ million subscribers actually do make any money.0 -
weirdo's heard something on the radio today about someone getting a divorce because their husband was having a virtual affair on line eh!0

There are SO many floppy disk or hard drive jokes I could attempt here, but I'll save everyone the agony.
I did try Second Life a while back but I really couldn't see the fun, but then that's probably just me. It would certainly make it more interesting if an income could be made from 'playing' it.My Mind Not Only Wanders..... Sometimes I Lose It Completely.....0 -

Good luck on your business.
Yes, I know that people do make money and I can imagine how it's done as social networking is so popular and especially Facebook with all it's applications for virtual things..
This is what I've heard of people doing on Second Life for real money in case any of you are interested -
work for others - get your avatar in their business to make it look busy
wedding planner
fashion design
tattooes
special effects maker
stock exchange
musician
nightclub owner
estate agent
pet maker
newsletter - where you get real money for adverts
and let's not forget that real life divorce in the paper only happened after the woman hired a virtual private detective - so that's another job up for grabs LOL
I'm guessing that any job in the real world, could have a 2nd life equivalent.0 -
I don't have my own sims. I build scripted objects and I also create virtual houses etc. It certainly isn't enough for a fulltime income! But on an average month (basing this on the last 6 months) I take around £ 300.
You have to learn the skills involved and market well....the product is only a tenth of the battle. Marketing in Second Life is difficult and having a presence in the game and on the merchant websites like https://www.xstreetsl.com is crucial.0 -
i think too many people go into second life and assume it's going to be a game, when it's far from it.
i lost count of the amount of times i was in the welcome area and people arrived and said "ok, so what do i do now ?" or "so how do i play this then?".
the bottom line is that you still have to put a degree of money in if you're going to get any out and for me, the returns just aren't worth bothering about based on the amount of time needed - i chatted to a sim owner once who said that the bulk of her time spent was chasing other people for tier payments.
the divorce thing in the paper doesn't surprise me really. i got to know a couple of women on SL while I was there. Both of them were "married" in there, but the difference was that one of their real life husbands was fully aware of it and thought it was all a bit of fun and didn't mind if it made his wife happy.
The other woman's real life husband was completely unaware of what she was doing, and the woman in question was taking her virtual "marriage" very seriously, as they'd apparently contacted each other in real life as well.
so it all goes on in there for sure ..
i ended up having a 6 month blitz on it and just lost all interest after that ..0
