old debts need advice please!!

hi everyone
i nedd some advice as i have recently recieved a letter from red debt collection services stating that they are considering serving a statutory demand on me. the debt was originally withh hsbc and was from a long time ago possiby more than 6 years! it is for 1598pounds. i have also recieved a letter from lowell asking for 568 on behalf of hsbc..

i am not living at the address that they have posted these to and have not for some time. i have not entered into any corresspondance from either of these companies.
i believe that the debt was for a bank account and credit card i had when i was 19 and rather foolish

firstly i was wondering if there was anyway in which i could find out exactly what date i made my last aknowledgement of this debt without alerting either lowell or red, as i fell that if they think i am now acting that these scare tatcicts are working and they may be encouraged to continue.

also i am not keen on them knowing my current address as i live with my 80 year old gran and i dont want her having to deal with constant bombardment of phone calls. if i use my current visa card to buy a credit report can they use the info to find my new address??

does anyone think that they are likely to issue the statutory demand for thus sum of money or should i just ignore them. i an not a homeowner but i do have about 6000 in savings and could they get accsess to this information??

please please if anyone could help i would appreciate it as i have worked hard to sort out my finances and do not want to be wiped out for an old debt!!

thanks

    Hi

lowell and red are the same company, using different names.

You need to get your credit records from Equifax and experien to see if these debts are listed there.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
  • hi thanks

If you were to request a copy of your credit file, you would need to notify them of your address. If needbe, this would be updated on their system which would then be visible to DCA's.
