Job with Cold Calling!!!

Hi
I just got a new job, working at home for a charity. I took the job as it is at home and i do not have to worry anymore about childcare which i was having a total nightmare with.
I have to make cold calls, i am not selling anything but i am trying to get people to donate to the charity - job title is a telephone fundraiser.
I am in my third week now and i am so sorry for moaning as i know i have a job from home now - but i find it so so very difficult making the calls.
Does anyone out there have any experience say in call centres, telesales and such. I would really appreciate some tips.

Sorry to say i hated cold calling just as much as i hate getting cold calls.
Hope they are paying your phone bill.Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?0 -
You are just like one of those people with a charity logo on a 'football training' bib with a clipboard in the streets, but on the phone! I do not give any details to such people.
If people want to donate to charity, they donate when they want and how they want. For me, I buy stuff from charity shops and Christmas cards there and with the gift aid as well.
There are some other working from home posts here, just look for them."The reason we're successful, darling? My overall charisma, of course." -- Freddie Mercury

I'm afraid I agree with the above, I hate making cold calls (thankfully haven't had to do many in my time) but also hate receiving them, even those for a good cause, I don't know who you are so wouldn't donate to someone who phoned me out of the blue.
I do feel for you, but you will just have to get a thick skin really quickly as the majority of your day will be spent dealing with people hanging up on you or being down right rude.0 -
I've done this sort of work, although from a call centre environment. You have to develop a thick skin really quickly and not take rejections personally, sometimes it helps to "act" the role so it seems like someone else is doing it.0
