Defrosting help needed

I've got a pork joint for 5-6 people in my freezer. Using it boxing day.
We go out on Christmas day at midday and won't be home again until boxing day morning.
My question is when to start defrosting the joint. Do I take it out before we leave xmas day and leave it on the worktop to thaw? Or will that be too long at room temperature.
Or do I take out tomorrow sometime, defrost it then put in the fridge. Any idea how long it will take to defrost?
Help!! - I'm useless with stuff like this.

Defrost tomorrow then put in the bottom of the fridge untill boxing day. Even if it isn't totally defrosted when you put it in the fridge, 24hrs in there it should be at fridge temperature and contain no ice.0
