Have you tried getting another 0% credit card?
If you could get one and clear one of your existing cards, you may be able to get a balance transfer offer as an existing customer - possibly 0% for 6 months or low interest life of balance. This will hopefully cost less in the long term as you will be paying less interest and may hopefully reduce the monthly payments too.

  • Hi, welcome to the DFW and congrats at having your LB moment and taking your first step twards becoming DF! :)

As the others have said, details on your credit file are only held for 6 years. There is even a thread around here somewhere on how to repair your credit file over time, something to look at if you're concerned.

    Good Luck :)

  • Hi. I think you need to check whether you are entitled to any benefits - don't know but you might be so worth a check there. Make sure you are getting council tax benefit if there is only you in the house living there.
I think the best thing for you to do might be to give one of the debt charities a ring - eg CCCS/National Debtline or pop into your local CAB. You appear to have money left over after priority bills - even if you take into account your electric and gas will go up once you move permanently back into your house (if that is the plan). I think a DMP may be suitable for you. You would arrange it through a debt charity and they would apportion your spare money between your creditors -what you can afford - not neccessarily what they want though. Yes your credit rating will be affected but CCCS/National Debtline should be able to deal with your creditors on your behalf -this should hopefully reduce your stress levels somewhat.
The other option is to somehow increase your income /decrease your expenses.
A loan is a bad, bad, bad idea. So many people end up on here having consolidated once, twice, 3 times etc and it rarely works - all you are doing is spreading the money over a longer period of time and will end up paying a lot more back - unless the route cause/causes have been identified the spending will continue and you will end up more in debt than before so this really is not a good option.
Please try not to worry and even if you think a dmp might not be for you the charities will be able to talk your through your options. Remortgaging will not necessarily be as easy for you but should still be possible - the debt charities will be able to advise you of people's experiences.
    Good Luck

  • I am fairly sure this is against the law in terms of credit cards:
'another has sugessted a consolidation loan as they stated that if i wanted to do an agreed payment that would be a payment plan and it could effect my credit rating for up to 16 years's so can effect my mortgage etc etc
You could report them to someone for that as they will be in big trouble for
    a) trying to sell you a loan and not necceasrily helping you but landing you in more trouble and
    b) for lying about the effect it will have on your credit file - or at best misleading you.
Please do not take advice from those scumbags.

  • Not read all the posts properly but just want to say - do not consolidate and get another loan to pay a loan!

Many of us (me being expert!) have been there, done that, got the T shirt...and now find ourselves in even more debt than we started with!
Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free :)
