Response from Red/Lowell regarding "prove-it" letter

Heya,
Hoping someone can help with this. All the threads regarding these scumbags have been very helpful, but I keep getting lost in all the types of letter template and legislation quotes.
I've had a letter from Red Debt Collection/Lowell/Hamptons in response to my "Prove-it" letter (debt is more than 6 years old). It says:
Thank you for your recent correspondence.
We are currently looking into your enquiry and will respond as soon as possible. Please be aware we will try to answer and resolve your query at our earliest convenience.
Unfortunately, I am not able to give you an exact date as to when this will be as our enquiries can take time, as we often have to retrieve information from the original client or external bodies.
What I can guarantee is that your enquiry is being dealt with and you have no need to write in again.
This letter was dated the 29th Oct, but according to the Royal Mail, the recorded letter was signed for on the 18th Oct.
I know they are just stalling for time. If they had all the information about the debt at hand, they would have just sent it.
Question is, does the 12+1 day time period apply to “Prove-its” or is that just CCA requests? If so, 13 working days after 18th Oct would be 3rd Nov. Shall I send the follow up letter telling them they are in default or does this not apply?
Thanks as always

Only to a formal request for the CCA.
Was this the general "prove it" letter here or the Statute Barred letter here? You mention "over six years old" so I presume it was the second of those?
If this is not a CCA request and you don't get any more hassle from them, then there isn't a particular "follow up" as such.
They should only be contacting you again after this if they can prove that you have a liability for the debt and it is not statute barred.
The only other issue may be if they have incorrectly registered anything against your credit reference files?Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Thanks for the reply. It was the six year letter I sent.
I won't chase them up then, I'll just bear this in mind in case they ever write to my OH again. Give them a gentle reminder that it's been queried. It's him they've been writing to. Good advice about the credit report though. I'll ask him to get an up to date copy.
Easy to get confused will all the different scenario's and templates.

If they should "forget" and start causing hassle without providing any proof, then there is a letter here in this thread that can probably be adapted.
Have a read through the thread and you will get the idea.
