Washing a cashmere scarf

Hi all
Just a quickie. I want to quickly wash a cashmere scarf. The label says not to use biological powder, but thats all I have in the house. Is there anything else I could use safely. Stardrops? Naturally I don't want to ruin it, but it's not really dirty, just needs freshening up. All help gratefully received

How about rubbing your hands around a bar of soap, a couple of times, in the water that you're going to use for washing the scarf BEFORE putting the scarf in. Then, very gently, move the scarf around in the water with gentle rubbing/squeezing technique.
Just make sure that you rinse it very well or any soap left in it will cause it to 'roughen'.
I definitely wouldn't use Stardrops on it, just in case.0 -
Yes, that sounds a safe alternative to me !!!
I've got some Dove soap and that is very gentle.
Thanks for that Ollie, brain dead this morning and couldn't think of anything that might do the trick0 -
Washing up liquid is a possibility if you have a mild one. Fairy Ultra peels the skin off my fingertips, so I wouldn't recommend that. When we had our "wool washing lesson" in school we were told to use washing up liquid for delicate things.0

I use shampoo to wash mine and a drop of hair conditioner if I don't have any fabric stuff. Works fine for me.0

Washed 'his' cashmere jumper in shampoo yesterday too, and dried it over a bath towel.......me I get 'mixed fibres'........something wrong surely???0

I would second the shampoo (preferably baby shampoo) rather than Dove soap. I love Dove, but it contains quite a lot of moisturiser which could affect the cashmere.
Good luck!0
