hmmm i'm not sure my waistline looks like it's bothered much about low fat stuff :o LOL ;):p
  • Some good budget ideas here!
Bumped in light of previous questions :).
  • Not much to add to previous suggestions apart from Menu plan, and don't just plan for the first week, as many items will carry over.
  • Could you do her a moving in basket with perhaps lots of sauces, jams, marmalade, tea, sugar, spices etc. Maybe do a shop and buy lots of two for ones and give her the spares, all to try and build a store cupboard up, then the 20ukp will go a lot further each week.

    good luck

I would get the meat deal from mr S of 3 for £10

    a whole chicken
    pack mince
    double pack bacon

    then

    bread
    potatoes
    rice or pasta
carrots (and any other cheap veg she likes)
    tinned toms/passata
    eggs
    fruit from market

bacon/egg sarnies for breakfast (can buy cereal if money left over)

the meat would easily be enough for 2 weeks even if she has chicken sandwiches for lunches every day.

People often neglect meat when budgeting but it is filling and can s-t-r-e-t-c-h!!

    :)

I vote for the egg fried rice! If there is an Indian/Asian shop near her she,ll be able to get huge soy sauces for he same price as a little one in the big four supermarkets.

Also, homemade scones are cheaper than buying bread and pretty immediate. If she is creative and wanted( and had time ) to make bread I have started recently making the dutch oven no knead one, takes min 10 hours start to finish ( I made it after 7 hour initial rise successfully) and it is working out 40p a loaf for ingredients, and is sublime.....

Sardines are very good value in lidl.Sardines on toast, pizza topping or fish curry.

Fry an onion in a little oil or margarine, add half a tin of value or lidl tomatoes, sardines,a few raisins or other dried fruit and a chopped apple.Heat for a few minutes.
