clogged up mascara

Hi everybody,

I have about 5 clogged up mascaras. As I now need to buy a new one and these 5 are all nice I was wondering if there is anything I can do to extend their life?

sorry if this has been posted before but I looked around for a bit and couldn't find this question.

thanks

Alison

I think someone once suggested you could add a drop of babyoil to them, give the brush a swirl around and they should be better. I've never had a mascara clog up and I keep mine for years (yes I know I shouldn't!).
  • thanks, I'll give it a go and let you know.

    Hello urban chameleon

Before adding anything to the contents of the mascara tube, I'd try placing the mascara tube in a glass of hot water to warm the contents. If you ensure that the water depth is lower than the tube screw top opening, you won't dilute the contents.;)

Another tip is...........don't force air into the mascara tube by repeatedly pushing the mascara wand in and out of the tube when you're using it.;)

    Regards

  • Usually clogged mascara = bin it, it's past it's best. Mascaras on average are only supposed to last 6 months, then they start to deteriorate & shouldn't be used. But hey, tis up to you :)
  • hiya!
I get this problem a lot...i usually lay the tube on the radiator while i put the rest of my make up on and by the time i'm done the mascara is nice and smooth again :j

    Hope this helps! X

More like 3 months! TBH if it was me I would chuck them out. It's just not worth getting an eye infection...

Mascara should really only be kept for 3 months. Top tips: keep in the fridge to minimise bugs; if you have a standard wand, bend the brush to an angle from the stick (easily done just by angling the brush inside the tube, then bending the stick down) - this means you can get at the hard-to-reach corner lashes more easily without smudging.

£10+ every three/six months - you gotta be kidding! My last one lasted more than two years (one before that was from 2002 and I used it daily) & I've never had an eye infection! 3/6m is just so the beauty companies get more money out of you!! :rotfl:

    Me too.

I'm sure they give this time limit as the mascara deterioration has been clinically tested & bug growth monitored.

I use either YSL false lash effect or Estee Lauder and I am happy with the results I get over the 6 months period. I bought my last YSL about 7 months ago and it's now clogging up, so it's bye bye.
