Any reclaiming backdated charges, successes with either Monument, MBNA or Halifax?

Hi
I have just sent off the initial request letters for statements to the three companies above to reclaim charges, as per standard letter.
Have any members had any successes with any of the above companies and anything I should be aware of?
Also, does a phone call work better? I am reluctant to call as I am making payments and don;t want to be drawn into ''conversations'' like "I'm glad you called, we'll increase your payments....."
Many thanks
Stuart
