  • loopydonna - hi . I really think you need to try and sit down with your husband and sort this one out. You need to try and get across to him how concerned you are - how you will support him (not with money though) and how you can work throuh this together. Explain that you have found places that will help eg here, CCCS,CAB, National Debtline etc but that you are worried about it and him.

  • Thanks. I'll try and have a word and see if we can sort it out.

The phone line is still in my sole name, so I will use the advice given on that as the constant calls are doing my head in as I'm home most of the day.

I would like him to do an IVA or similar. I think he is missing payments and running up charges for missed payments etc., so it's going to cost him more in the long run to clear everything if he is getting charges added on. I know he is bad with finances. He told me that before we married, which is why we don't have anything joint and I didn't put him on any of the deeds, mortgage or bills when he moved in. The only bill he is on is the council tax one, which we couldn't avoid.
  • It's not easy but you can explain that you are not willing to put your house on the line. Please get advice as an IVA is not normally suitable for most people - but certainly it is an option to consider alongside a dmp or bankruptcy.
By the way there is a letter around here somewhere you can send asking them to correspond in writing only and inform them if they then proceed to call they will be causing harrassment and will be reported to the relevant authorities - maybe you could get it and print it off and get him to initial it - DO NOT let him sign it as signatures have been known to be copied and used to 'prove' people owe money and that they signed up to things -so be careful.
Let us know how you get on with talking to him.
