Tesco Home insulation service - not in the islands!

My Tesco store has a stand in it promoting their new Home Insulation Service, leaflet states that cavity wall and loft insulation are available for £195 each.
Got a phone call from them on Friday to arrange an appointment for a consultant to come round, "Oh, you're in the Western Isles, wait a minute" She consulted with a colleague and came back to say that they can't offer the service where I live, so would put my details on file.
So angry that Tesco are advertising a service that they cannot deliver on. The stand + leaflets was still there when I popped in yesterday.
I feel a stiff letter coming on.....

You'll be on Lewis then - I assume you 'popped in' to the Tesco which used to be Somerfield?
Are there no contractors on Lewis who will do the insulation for you?
The problem is that Tesco are just selling this deal on behalf of someone else - if there is no contractor on Lewis involved in the scheme, you won't be able to get Tesco to do it.
My advice: get the story in the Gazette and see if you can get it on BBC Scotland, otherwise you've no hope of getting a result.
By the way, is Tesco open on Sunday yet?British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
I bought a cooker on tinternet from currys. Two days later hey phoned me to say they were refunding me as they don't deliver to Lewis. I said thats OK, you can deliver it to Woody's in Inverness and they will take it home for me. The bird ont he other end of the phne said no, can't do that, the refund has been processed and then hung up! Its a typically crappy attitude that big businesses have, think of all the customers they are losing!0

Not a chance - for a couple of years anyway! They need to settle into the Island and then sneak it open on Sundays and blame public pressure for making them do it0 -
Why would you want tesco to insulate your home anyway
Just phone up a local trustworthy tradesman (or do it yourself)0 -

Probably because you can only get insulation from:
a) Build Centre
b) the mainland (the other one, not Lewis  ) via CalMac and on to Inverness.
Local trustworthy tradesmen WOULD probably be the ones doing it, if any of them were involved in the scheme Tesco are flogging.
Otherwise, the 'local trustworthy tradesemen' might well be a bit pricey.
They'ver also got the same choice of Build Centre or a trip to Inverness to get the materials as well.
Mind you, in a the Crofting style, you could always make your own from sheep fleeces...British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
I'm looking to get cavity wall insulation done and I can't do that myself
If I get a local trader to do it for me, it's going to cost in excess of £500 - so that's why I want Tesco to do it for me, as according to their blurb it should only cost £195. (and I'll get Clubcard points too)

You cant blame Tesco for the situation on Lewis. Long known for extortionate costs. They would have to engage a local contractor & as you have found - a local wanted £500. Like eilidh_s, I will go to great lengths to source off Island using Woody's etc. Recently I saved over £300 on local prices on a powered garage door & that was after paying for transport from england.
I long for the demise of the Bells Road bandits!0
