Sher Skincare System?

I have been reading the thread on adult acne with interest and thought I would start a new question? I suffered with acne right through my teens and early twenties. As everyone knows it is an extremely distressing condition and really affected my self esteem. I am now 47 and going through the delightful peri-menopause which is a challenge in itself. However, the acne seems to be rearing it's ugly head again and I know it is hormone related. I am desperate not to go through it all again and have seen an article about the Sher system for Acne and Rosacea.

It sounds wonderful but is so, so expensive. They even charge for a skin analysis.

Before embarking down this route I would be so grateful to hear if anyone has had any success?

Also been recommended to Dermalogica products but again not sure if they are worth the cost?

Would be very grateful to hear any comments.

Thanks in advance.

  • I had never heard of the Sher system before - which is a bit surprising since I have worked on acne treatments and keep up with the literature on the subject.

Looking at their website I think it looks like a scam - I can't see anything that suggests they know about the condition.

I would stick to a more wildly known brand - Dermalogica for example. My step son has had great results using it.

I also know a lot of people use the Australian Body Care face wash and Ketsugo Gel

Just a thought, is your skin getting very oily which is causing the outbreaks? Perhaps using the oil cleansing method for a month will see a huge difference
  • Thanks for the replies. I did wonder as nobody has mentioned it on the other thread either. Sorry, what is the oil cleansing method?sara
  • Just wanted to say to LoubyLoo am going through exactly the same thing with spots and menopause, so she's not alone. Life's so unfair .

Am going to try Dermalogica I think. Although they do a range for adult acne not sure if it would be ok for more mature skin.
  • Thanks yet again for the oil cleansing method instructions - sounds very interesting. I plan to give this a go first and if I still have problems will consider the dermalogica range I think.

Oh, it would be so wonderful to have blemish free skin. My Mum had the most beautiful skin all her life.

Try looking at this link on rosacea.

I've used the SHer system for a year, and it is very expensive. I like the Super Serum and the Sun Lotion. However, I've switched to Liz Earle cleanse & polish to wash my face. I think the results are better, much less faff, and much much cheaper. However, what may suit one person may not suit another.

Please read my post about the benefits of Fish Oil in that thread.
  • Hello,

After suffering with cystic acne throughout my twenties (thanks to PCOS) I began using the Sher Skin System with excellent results. It was the only thing that seemed to have any impact on my acne. After about 2 years I stopped using it and changed to Liz Earle due to the cost. I found Liz Earle to be really nice to use until after 6 months my cystic acne returned. I tried a number of skin care regimes, including Dermalogica, to try and rectify the situation but nothing helped. About 6 months ago I started back on the Sher system and my skin showed an immediate improvement and was back to normal after about a week of use so it seems to be the only thing that agrees with my problem skin.

    Hope this helps x

I have read a number of negative comments about the Sher system, but I should like to offer a counter-view. Helen Sher came to my rescue after decades of skin problems; I only wish I had known about the system many years before. Since using her methods my skin has been transformed. And talk of the treatment being too costly is simply wrong. Think about the money one pays out for products that don't work and are thrown out, and compare the price of facial cleansers that cost the earth because they are brand names and then Sher products seem quite reasonable.

I am a man in his 70's, and only in the last ten years have I had a good skin, and that is because of Helen Sher. I have no commercial connection with her and offer this comment because of how she helped me. I have only praise and gratitude.
  • I would just like anyone out there who is considering buying this product to be aware of the ingredients. The website reads that the oral pills will "safely" eliminate acne. This is not true. I bought the pills and the label on the bottle tells a different story. You should not take them if pregnant or planning to get pregnant. One of the main ingredients in this product is retinol. In the US, you must be on birth control in many states, legally, to administer this ingredient in oral form.

Please be aware that this is not a safe product to take orally within a year of trying to conceive. I'm only becoming aware of this as I am researching it more. I have sent a letter to the Sher, urging this company to take off the word "safely" and/or add the disclaimer of retinol being known to cause birth defects. I am waiting for their response.

I cannot post a link but if you are interested you should google the words "retinol and birth defects".
