Some companies cover the goods in transit, but the actual vehicle insurance is a grey area, some parcel firms take standard business use as ok but what the insurance company may say is another matter. It's hard work and knocks hell out of a car.
Many home delivery couriers use small vans or Kangoo/Berlingo estates.Non home delivery Couriers with the likes of DHL, DPD and other firms using 3.5 tonne Transit/Sprinters may get from £1.40 a drop depending on run but they can do 100 + drops and many miles; they have to pay for all insurances, diesel etc themselves.

Honestly speaking, I'd tried DHL and I am very much satisfied. They are good biggrin.gif

Sorry Rob, not quite sure of what you are saying. Are you a home courier for DHL,
using your own vehicle? If so, which sort of additional insurance have you taken out?

    cheers

I was covering at a depot on an ad hoc basis on van rounds, and taking bags of parcels to @home couriers, there are a mix of employed and self employed drivers in most branches. Self employed drivers generally have a fixed round and have to provide a van and pay for all insurances and fuel, including vehicle with courier cover, goods in transit, and public liability. The fuel cost on a rural run with a daily mileage of 120 miles + is upwards of £30 per day. This is a completely different scenario to home delivery in terms of mileage but I am led to believe that the insurance requirement is identical for @home couriers. You should ask the parcel company themselves what insurances they expect you to have. The car insurer may look bleakly at any claim if courier use was not specified on the policy.
