    Hi and welcome.

First off give one of the free debt helplines a call,CCCS and NDL numbers are in my sig. They will be able to tell you exactly what your first steps to being debt free should be. When you have spoken to them come back here with any questions you may have. Good luck with that call.Dx

Hi Davelee and welcome. You've made a start in taking control of your debt - well done for that! As Dalip says, phone one of the debt charities in her signature. Stop beating yourself up over your debt.

Can you please put down your expenses as monthly payment, its just easier to read and help with. Does your girlfriend receive any benefits or are you supporting her?

Why don't you want to go BR? Would it affect your work? Would your landlord be bothered by it? If it's just the 'stigma' you don't like the sound of, think DEBT vs STIGMA. Which is worse? I don't believe there's much stigma, BTW...

To be Honest I don't want to go BR for a few reasons.

    1. My boss and I have just set up a new company in which I am a director.
    2. I don't want to run away from my debt as i'd rather struggle for a few years and pay it. If you can struggle for a few years and have it paid off then maybe you're right and BR isn't for you.
    3. I want to improve my credit rating and by paying it hopefully the lenders will report the fact i'm paying my debt to the CRA's.

But if all else fails that may be my only option. That is usually what BR is for 'when all else fails'

Thank you all for your replies, Much obliged.

    Dave
If you have any other queries relating to your circumstances don't be afraid to come back and ask.

If you are serious about wanting/being able to pay your debt back you will get loads of advice on the DFW board.

    Good luck!

  • Hi D

I guess it's not straightforward then. If you can do the makesenseofcards.com SOA and post it on the forum that would help. Is it possible for you to 'demote' yourself from being a director of the business? It sounds like a call to one of the debt helplines is in order. Good luck!
