Suitcases / Holdalls - What Do You Think of Yours?

Options
Hi

When we last came back from holiday our luggage was missing another handle so we are going to have to buy some more for our next trip (tho I'm in no rush to get it).

So tell me ....... what type of luggage do you have, is it any good? What others have you had that you would recommend and definitely wouldn't.

The suitcase that is about to go out for the binmen is from a cheap set from Argos and I'm thinking about buying a wheelable holdall next time as easier to store. I'm not keen on getting a hardback case as I like to take as many clothes as poss on holiday and wouldn't want case to eat into that. I know you can buy hard cases that are light but I imagine they'd be even more expensive.

Thanks

Ms C x

With more and more restrictions on the weight of luggage,
Maybe the end of the large case?
Flew this year with XL  ( early in the season ) and was limited to 15Kilos.

Airports seem to be getting bigger ( or me older) so wheels are essential, but they seem to have a will of there own.

Dont buy a Black/blue/grey/green case, hard to pick out in the scrum at the conveyor belt. Think pink/orange with very large flowers:rotfl:

  • mine was a black one from sports world for under £20

it survived the greek baggage handlers (not known for being careful) and is pretty much still imaculate. just checked and its a dunlop, not an expensive brand name but it was for my first holiday in 7 years and looked modern lol

rest of my family got them and theirs were good too
things arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back then ;)

We bought a dead cheap set of three from In Store for about £15. The two larger ones have been to Tunisia, Rhodes & Cyprus and are all still perfect. The smaller one gets used about every other week and is looking a little battered but all zips, wheels and handles are still working perfectly!

Maybe buy cheap and buy often is the answer?

I bought a wheeled holdall as part of a set a few years ago from Argos. Their current item 286/1632 looks very much like the one I have. I'm very impressed with how well mine has lasted. It's clocked up a lot of miles on planes and on foot (I usually walk rather than take taxis if it's not too far). The wheels still run extremely smoothly and the zips are fine too. The only damage is where it has rocked off its wheels and scraped the corners. Loading heavier stuff at the same end as the wheels helps avoid this problem.
I don't know if the one they're currently selling is as well made as mine but it's got good reviews on the Argos site and is reduced to only £9.97 at the moment...

I agree with getting a bright coloured or patterened ones. We normally borrow my parents dark green ones, but then spends ages at baggage reclaim going "here it is....... on no it isn't"
Here I go again on my own....
  • We are still using the same suitcase that we had as wedding present - 20 years ago!!! As to other on about dark green suitcases, why not get some bright coloured stickers, they will come off to give back to owners or wrap some wool around the handle so you can spot them quicker?

We bought our luggage from asda earlier this year, it was 3 cases for £18 and tehy're all different sizes
  • I bought a Samsonite reduced in the sales over 10 years ago and it been faultless. Plus it's still in excellent condition despite being the expandable canvas style, I say buy cheap buy twice, and buy in the sales!
