Hi peeps,
I hope someone can help. Bit short notice but I am male!
I want to buy my mum something to do with family trees. Have seen this program in PC World, here, but not sure if it is any good? Anyone know?
Is there a better alternative? Not neccesarily a PC program maybe a fancy chart you can do yourself?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Oh yeah, need to get it before Crimbo aswell! :rotfl:

I use "Family Tree Maker" on my PC. I think it's great. I'm addicted to it.:grouphug: Things can only get better.0

You could sign her up for ancestry.co.uk. You get a free 14 day trial which gives you access to all records E.g 1900 census and 1801 1701 forces records see how she gets on then pay subscription for year.
you can build a family tree for free on genesreunited.co.uk. They will email you if they find a "hot match"
i.e someone else looking for person of same name
or you could do the searching yourself, (hurry) buy a blank tree (WH Smiths)and get someone to write in caligraphy all the names you find0 -
I think I had an earlier version of the one in your link. I actually took it back (because it was so poor) and I was able to get a refund!

I use Legacy Family Tree Maker, which is free on the net. I would also advise asking anyone in the family if they have done any research and ask for a copy. Legacy allows you to import GEDCOM files which are the most widely used tree making files. If a family member has his/her tree on pc, they should be able to generate a gedcom file for you.
Our oldest relative was born in 1750, its really great addictive stuff.0 -
I use Root Magick which I got sent from the US. Excellent programme.
JulesThe ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0 -
Family Tree Maker is the easist that Ive used. Very simple to input and gives you loads of options for afterwards0

I think the friends reunited site does a similar site for families, which may be worth a look.0
