Children In Need - Baking Cakes - help please!

I am making fairy cakes for children in need. I would love some ideas I can do for the topping to keep the theme.

It needs to be cheap, and child friendly as it is for children.

friend last yr just did white icing over cupcakes with red polka dots,and called them bandana buns,cos they look like the scarf pudsey wears!
